Rigid Rail Fall Protection Systems

The Rigid Rail System is an enclosed track system designed for smooth consistent movement. This system allows for an improved clearance by placing the anchor point above the worker's head. The Rigid system will stop falls faster than a horizontal lifeline's wire rope. Now available in plain, trussed, and double trussed tracks to fit whatever application needed.

The rigid rail is one the best fall protection systems on the market. The main benefit of rigid rail is that, unlike a horizontal lifeline, the system doesn’t deflect in the event of a fall, which helps decrease the required fall clearance. Many horizontal lifelines require upwards of twenty-five feet of vertical clearance, which is frequently not a possibility.

The most common applications for rigid rail are for accessing equipment such as machinery, train cars, semi-trucks and airplanes. Typically equipment such as a train car is only ten feet above the ground below and work is being performed while kneeling. This puts the worker’s D-ring at a distance closer to the ground, which means that a horizontal lifeline would not be an option. A lack of overhead structure is not an issue for rigid rail as structures with small footprints can easily be erected to create an overhead system for outdoor applications.

Rigid Rail Systems

ESG offers multiple rigid rail options through the incorporation of enclosed tracks or I-beam trolleys. The enclosed track option utilizes beam clips and hangers that allow the system to be elevated and positioned as desired. Tracks can run in any direction in a facility with adjustable attachment options and can be located at whatever position is required vertically to ensure that the system doesn’t interfere with existing items such as conduit, fires sprinklers or lighting. Inside the tracks, a trolley is able to run freely the entire length of the system and can be easily accessed with a self-retracting lifeline and tagline assembly that allows the worker to bring the lanyard snap hook to their full body harness D-ring. The enclosed track is available in multiple options depending on the required span distance and is capable of dual-bypass, which allows two workers to freely pass each other without detachment.

The I-beam trolley is the simplest method for providing overhead mobile fall protection using the existing structure. With adjustable widths, the trolley can be used on most all I-beams and is easily removable. If engineering is required, ESG can either perform a structural analysis on the existing structure or specify a new I-beam including its connection to the existing structure.
